Do you keep hearing the phrase ‘content marketing’ and wondering what the hell it means? Perhaps also with words like ‘strategy’ or ‘management’ somewhere in the mix? Does this all sound like the equivalent of eighties yuppie speak to you?
It’s okay, you’re not alone. But it needn’t be something that sounds baffling, it’s actually very simple…
Content marketing just means creating and sharing valuable, relevant content to attract and retain your chosen audience. The idea is that your content will effectively drive profitable customer action. That action could be sales, or new clients, or just audience engagement and brand recognition. Depends what you want. It’s probably mostly sales though.
And content? Well that really is what it says on the tin. It’s the content on your website, in your blog, in your newsletters, your social media.
The big thing here though is about having good content. There’s no point thinking up great ways to put your content in front of a fantastic audience if your content is meh.
Ahem – well, you could use a pro to help. We’re bound to say that, obviously. But actually the key is about knowing your audience and producing content that is relevant, consistent and interesting. They should be reading it because it’s interesting and they WANT TO READ IT! Not because they have to. And once you’ve put together some great content, think about ways to put that awesome content in front of your audience – maybe as a blog, or post, or mailer or infographic or video or book, or whatever. The options are many. And then hey presto, you’re getting down with some great content marketing! See? Not so complicated.
