Dec 11 - 5 Content strategy predictions for 2018 Title Media

OK so we’re not going to give away tons here – after all this is what we do for a living and our trade has taken us years to hone. And this is by no means an exhaustive list. But as a lovely advent calendar gifty handful of tips, here’s five things to get on board with…

1. Facebook will continue to grow on mobile
In fact, the prediction is that by 2020 just under 60% of Facebook users will access the platform exclusively by mobile. So if you have a site linked from fb that isn’t mobile-friendly, or you’re running an online shop platform that isn’t integrated, you’d better look sharp and get with the programme.

2. Social continues to grow for older generations
If you own a business and you think that most people using Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are vapid 20-somethings without two brass farthings to rub together, think again. Over HALF THE POPULATION of social media users are over 35, and they’re getting older. Does that sound like your target demographic? Does your business have a good social media presence? If not, why not?

3. Video is a big deal
And will keep getting bigger. You don’t need a big flashy camera and microphones to make a video now – use your phones, and a phone app to edit, and upload onto YouTube or similar. It’s the future, for now, and it’s easy for anyone to do. Use it to humanise your content. More about video later in the month.

4. Stop using content to sell
Seriously. Whether it’s a blog or your social media platforms, this shiz has been around long enough that any user can see your sales schtick a mile off, and will be turned off by it. If all you ever say is ‘we do this, we do this, we do this’, your audience is just gonna say ‘we don’t care’. We can help you with this, by the way. Email us for ideas.

5. Do your content properly
The days when a brand’s content could be innocent, personal, random and unconnected are long gone. These days to really have a good voice you need a plan – a content strategy. You need to understand your audience and have a clear tone of voice across all platforms.

Well, really all the above are tips for today, so you get a fat five instead of just one. But realistically, as an over-arching prediction, it’s really about the fact that content – whether on your website, social media or printed brochures – has never been so important. Ignore that at your peril!
